In response to the Channel 2 investigation: MQG calls on the Attorney General to open an investigation whether or not MK Oren Hazan is guilty of blackmail

MQG has called upon the Attorney General, Yehuda Weinstein, to open an investigation with regards to the suspected blackmailing The Speaker of the Knesset MK Yuli Edelstein by MK Oren Hazan.

The allegations surfaced following the release of the Channel 2 expose´ about MK Hazan. The financial magazine, “The Marker”, reported that “according to sources close to Speaker of the Knesset Yuli Edelstein, in response to the decision to suspend Vice Chairman of the Knesset Oren Hazan, MK Hazan called MK Edelstein’s personal mobile phone line and when a personal assistant to Edelstein answered the phone MK Hazan threatened to find and publicize scandalous information about Chairman Edelstein”.

If these allegations are verified, then this instance of threatening an elected official to publicly humiliate him is a serious threat, however, the context of this incident, which was presumably an attempt by MK Hazan to have his suspension reversed makes this an even more serious threat.  Beyond the criminal element of these allegations the unbecoming suspected behavior deals a serious blow to the Knesset, Israel’s elected parliament.

It is the stance of MQG that an immediate investigation into these severe allegations be initiated immediately.
